Screening "The Accidental President"

Belarus changed in August 2020. After the falsified elections the largest wave of protests in modern Belarusian history started. The protesters were convinced that Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya gained a majority of the votes. They demanded free and fair elections and the resignation of Aliaksandr Lukashenka. The regime responded with unprecedented repressions which are still ongoing four years later. Tsikhanouskaya lives in forced exile in Lithuania. But she has not stopped working for a democratic Belarus.

The movie “The Accidental President” shows the personal and political life of Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya. It is an impressive portrait of a woman who only decided to run after her husband was imprisoned and (almost) accidentally became the face of a new Belarus.

Starting at 7:30 PM The screening will be followed by a short discussion and a Q&A in english with the directors and prominent representatives of the Belarusian democracy movement and ends at 10 PM
