Future energy policy in Southern Africa

New FES broschure looks into energy crisis and climate change, and how trade unions could increase their

policy-shaping influence

The booklet "Future Energy Policy in Southern Africa – What Role for Trade Unions"? presents the findings of research undertaken for the Southern Africa Energy Network (SAEN), with the objective of contributing to the development of a comprehensive energy policy framework in Southern Africa.

Specifically, it aims to address concerns about current gaps in the energy system such as the lack of coordinated discussion of policy, the energy access deficit, the need for diversification of the energy mix (from thermal and hydro to renewable), institutional and regulatory issues. Last but not least, trade unions should see the energy crisis and climate change as creating space for positive policy change.
