Since the 1970th a new interest in regional history arose in Western Germany. This led to a downright history movement which was hallmarked by historical investigations, reminiscence work, history of eveyday life and microhistory.
Right from the beginning the German Social Democratic Party with its manifold local branches played an important part within this movement. This bottom-up historiography led to the publication of a great number of anniversary publications produced by regional and local SPD branches. These publications are collected and indexed in the FES Library.
From the time of its foundation the FES Library has systematically and extensively collected publications from organisations belonging to the international labour movement, in particular trade union organisations.
