Latin America at COP 27

This year again, numerous representatives from important partner organisations of the Foundation will participate in the COP 27 in Sharm-El-Sheik, whom we would like to introduce briefly here.

Environmental and climate policy are playing an increasingly important role in the offices and regional projects of the FES in Latin America. This year again, numerous representatives from important partner organisations of the Foundation will participate in the COP 27 in Sharm-El-Sheik, whom we would like to introduce briefly here. On the occasion of the International Day on Climate Change, we asked some of the participants about their expectations for the international climate conference.

 


 

Valentina de Marco from Argentina is the coordinator for alliances and international projects of the network "Red Argentina de Municipios frente al Cambio Climático (RAMCC)". The network supports municipalities in developing strategies on environmental policy and climate protection.

The Mexican journalist Maria del Pilar Martinez works for the daily newspaper "El Economista. Her thematic focus is on the labour market in Mexico and Latin America, employment policy, labour legislation and environmental policy.

The importance of information in communicating the actions and inaction of governments in the face of climate change is very important and requires greater commitment.

 

Gabriela Herrera Malig from Chile is Executive President of the NGO CEUS. The organisation supports young people to articulate and engage politically on sustainability, the climate crisis and environmental protection.

The most urgent thing is to push for the implementation of local adaptation measures, always starting from a territorial approach and knowing that we won't have the same problems or the same available resources in all places

 

Cecilia Isabel Requena Zárate has been a senator for the “Comunidad Ciudadana por La Paz” party in Bolivia for two years. As president, she chairs the Senate Committee on Natural Resources and Environmental Protection. She is also the author of numerous publications on the climate crisis, sustainable development and anti-corruption.

The most important action we must take in the face of climate change is individual and collective awareness of the climate emergency.

 

Chemical engineer Lucía Rodríguez is a member of the youth network "Red Juventudes y Cambio Climático de Costa Rica. The network aims to support greater participation of young people in environmental and climate policy discussions in Costa Rica and other countries in the region.

We need to empower countries and populations and make them more resilient. I see it as transformative adaptation, and the way to do that is through education.
